The glass pane in your old convertible top can be easily removed from the CLK 208 convertible top. The structure of the window unit is as follows: Inside the vehicle you can see a solid aluminium frame in the shape of a glass pane. This aluminium frame is riveted to an invisible iron frame. The convertible top fabric is clamped between these two frames. The glass pane is again glued to the invisible metal frame. The pane is cut out as usual with car glass. The two frames are separated from each other. The position of the pane is reliably determined by exactly positioned drill holes in the canopy fabric. The two frames and the canopy fabric are joined together again and the pane is glued back on.
