• Due to changes to the soft top linkage, there are two convertible top versions within the model years:

Rear window

• A window film approved for the original convertible top is used for your new BMW E36 convertible top (a corresponding test number is stamped in).
• The window film has original thickness.
• The rear window is sewn into an inside window frame with a double seam running exactly parallel.
• To prevent moisture from seeping through, the window piping on our e36 convertible tops is welded to the window foil. This is a quality advantage that you cannot see.
• We deliver your new BMW E36 convertible top with a green rear window. However, we will be happy to provide you with a quote for a soft top with a clear or gray window on request.
• To achieve better scratch resistance of the windshield surface, you should polish it repeatedly with a good car polish.

Please check the following before ordering:

• With this type of BMW vehicle, it is necessary to check the tensioning straps between the soft top and the frame, as the rubber bands on the tensioning straps slacken after a few years.
• These tensioning straps must be replaced on the convertible version of your BMW E36 if the soft top has an electric drive. This is the only way to ensure the necessary folding function when opening the soft top.
• The sealing rubber on the front edge of the convertible top only needs to be replaced if it is porous and heavily weathered on the surface. A test with an old cloth and glitter from the drugstore or the internet will clarify the situation.
• Please also note that your new BMW E36 soft top does not yet have any folding points in the bends of the soft top linkage. This means that the soft top linkage has to exert more force to fold the soft top when it is opened. If your convertible top linkage already has a lot of play in the joints due to wear, the new convertible top may not open quickly at first. You should then allow the soft top a certain training phase and help it until the folding points have become accustomed.
• Pay attention to the convertible top version of your BMW E36 with regard to the side bags. If you do not have an original soft top on your car, we can give you tips on which version you have. You should be able to give us some details of the side linkage.
